The Cold and The Warm: A Glimpse at the Calendar of a Makeup Artist

Being a makeup artist in the Philippines, no matter how glamorous and fancy it may seem, is not that easy. Even the top wedding makeup artists in the Philippines experience hardship as the nature of work is more of contract-based wherein they should be on a constant search for clients all year round to make a living. That is why they should be aware of the current events going on so they can score a gig, practice their craft, and earn.

Luckily, the “event climate” in the Philippines is not that difficult to predict. And with a bit of observation and a bit of luck, a makeup artist will know just what to do to make a living.

The Cold Treats

With the weather getting colder and colder each day, it is hard to think that summer is just around the corner. December to February is considered the cold season in the Philippines where the temperature can play at around 22-23 degree Celsius in Manila. Last February 9, a record of 19.4 degree Celsius was recorded ay 6.20am. This is considered as the lowest temperature for an amihan season as it has surpassed the recorded last December 29 of 19.6 degree Celsius.

But despite the cold weather, it seems that it doesn’t stop people from throwing celebrations as February remained as the favorite month for couples to tie the knot. In fact, top wedding makeup artists in the Philippines seem to have their busiest month of the year as most couples see the Month of February as the same month to finally get married. According to the Philippines Statistics Authority, February is the most favorite month for a wedding with a daily average of 1,799 marriages—a very busy month for top wedding makeup artists in the Philippines indeed.

The Warm Festive

While it may seem like the climate will be making it hard for us to take bath and will give us literal cold nights, there will be no need to worry because this cold season will soon come to an end. When the month of March comes, the weather will soon start to pick up and we will be back on our fun activities under the warm sun. It will be that time of the year again where we will experience the longest daytime and the hottest temperature.

With the warm months of March through October, the warm festivities around the country are also expected. Any smart makeup artist will know that this is an excellent opportunity to get clients. There is Sugbahan festival in Davao, Anilag Festival in Laguna, Pintados de Passi Festival in Iloilo, and Pasayaw festival in Negros Occidental on the Month of March. On April, there is Bangus Festival in Dagupan and Turumba in Laguna. And of course, the month of May has always been a season for Sta. Cruzan and Flores the Mayo where makeup artists are surely in demand.

It is also noteworthy that even though February is the favorite month for weddings, 11.7 percent of total weddings in the Philippines are still held in the month of May.

While it may seem that the locations aforementioned may require traveling different parts of the Philippines, it doesn’t mean that a makeup artist is required to do so just to earn. What this article wants to point out is that there are opportunities around if a person will only know where to look.
